Family History

Why are you……you?

Family history is not just about them….it’s also about you. Who and where you come from and why you are the curious mix of beliefs, attitudes and emotions that you are.

Family history and genealogy is sometimes thought about as creating the famous family tree. These are great, often look amazing and are definitely worth having - but family history can also be much more. My philosophy towards family history is centred on helping you to understand who you are and why.

All of us are products of our ancestors – each of them left an indelible mark on their children, shaping them in their beliefs and interests. In turn, they met their life partners and performed the same role in creating and influencing the outlooks of their children – and so on and on, until we arrive at you, a unique mix of the spiritual and physical DNA of all your ancestors.

This means my belief is that the heart of family history is about unlocking the stories and secrets about why you are you.

In addition, I can also help you to uncover some of the family legends that remain unanswered; how did granny meet granddad? My great-grandfather never talked about World War I – why? Is it true my ancestors came from another country? My approach to family history often starts with these and then the investigation begins….

Discovering the history of your family can be an unbelievably rewarding experience - the knowledge of why, where, what and who you are can be truly life changing.

Many people would love to have this knowledge, but either don’t have the time or feel daunted by where and how to start. Let me know how I can help - do take a look at the different options and explore the case studies to find out how I have made a difference with previous clients.

“The process is made so much more enjoyable by Graham himself, who invites you to join in the research. I loved how he put everything into context, by explaining what was happening at that time in history and superb facts about places where my relatives lived, such as the Liverpool workhouse. I am immensely proud to have discovered that I have four incredibly strong and incredible women in my family - grandmother, great grandmother, great, great grandmother and a fabulous great aunt. I cherish the beautiful book Graham made to celebrate the generations in my family tree.”
