Definitely! It might not make sense to have the history of your house researched if you are only the first or second resident, but apart from that, it honestly doesn’t matter how grand your house is - you just never know who lived there and what their stories might be. Every house I’ve researched so far, big or small, has had a fascinating past - I can’t imagine why yours would be any different. The case study on Amanda and Mike’s house is a perfect example, but so is the story of how Pier Avenue in Whitstable won a blue plaque.

The majority of my clients ask for a book that presents all the evidence I’ve found and tells the stories of the lives of the residents of their home or, if a family history, their ancestors. How much detail goes into these is done completely in negotiation with you and your budget. I can focus on just one part of the history or all of it, it’s really up to you!
If you would prefer something to display, I also produce framed lists of residents or family trees, providing an elegant time line into the past lives of former residents or ancestors.

Definitely! I can be commissioned for as little or as much work as you like. I have a very reasonable daily rate and I’ve even undertaken commissions as small as a single day.

This depends on how much time you would like me to spend on the study. For houses, records allowing it is usually possible to go back to whenever it was built. For families, records start to get a bit thin before 1800, but this doesn’t mean it isn’t worth exploring.

Honestly, it really doesn’t have to be as pricey as you might imagine. I work on a daily rate and the vast majority of my clients commission me on this basis - so you decide in advance how many days of research and writing you would like and therefore how much you are prepared to pay.
These are stunning bespoke products that only very few people own, so hopefully well worth it! The testimonials at the bottom of the home page might help you here.

Definitely. In fact, I kind of insist on it! That way we can discuss the different kinds of options available, and if you then wanted to go ahead, you can tell me about the things that matter most to you, including the questions you’ve always wanted answered.

Absolutely - the case study about Lucy is a good example, as this was only her mother’s side of the family.
-
Absolutely - as well as history I’ve got lots of writing experience in a whole range of areas, so I’m very used to not just doing the research but also writing it up in a very readable tone and style.

Absolutely - tell me how many words and what kind of style you’re looking for and we can go from there.

While most of my research is based in Britain, I have undertaken research on people from around the world, including the US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Ireland, Germany and South Africa.
