FAQs

  • Definitely! It might not make sense to have the history of your house researched if you are only the first or second resident, but apart from that, it honestly doesn’t matter how grand your house is - you just never know who lived there and their stories. Every house I’ve researched so far, big or small, has had a fascinating past - I can’t imagine why yours would be any different. The case study on Amanda and Mike’s house is a perfect example, but so is the story of how Pier Avenue in Whitstable won a blue plaque - go to the blue plaque page under the ‘About’ tab.

  • Absolutely - the case study about Lucy is a good example, as this was only her mother’s side of the family.

  • This depends on how much time you would like me to spend on the study. For houses, I’d recommend going back to whenever it was built. For families, records start to get a bit thin before 1800, but this doesn’t mean it isn’t worth exploring.

  • Honestly, it really doesn’t have to be as pricey as you might imagine. I work on a daily rate and the vast majority of my clients commission me on this basis - so you can decide in advance how much research you would like and how much you are prepared to pay. Some of the ‘big ticket’ items can take a fair while to prepare and so are a bit more expensive, but these are luxury bespoke products so hopefully well worth it - the testimonials from people who have commissioned these might help you here.

  • Definitely! I can be commissioned for as little or as much work as you like. I have a very reasonable daily rate and I’ve even undertaken commissions as small as a single day.

  • Absolutely - as well as history I’ve got lots of writing experience in a whole range of areas, so I’m very used to not just doing the research but also writing it up in a very readable tone and style.

  • Absolutely - tell me how many words and what kind of style you’re looking for and we can go from there.

  • While most of my research is based in Britain, I have undertaken research on people from around the world, including the US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Ireland, Germany and South Africa.

  • Absolutely! This is something I have done with clients before and it can be really rewarding for both you and me.

  • Definitely. In fact, I kind of insist on it! This way you can help me with the initial lines of enquiry and the things that matter most to you.
